Exploring Technology & Medical Engineering Trends

On the morning of November 13th, At Nguyen Van Dao lecture hall students of Hanoi School of Business and Management (HSB), Vietnam National University had the opportunity to interact with Dr. Tran Cong Minh – a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford (UK) and a notable figure in Forbes Vietnam’s ’30 Under 30′ in 2022 – as part of the workshop “Technology Trending in Healthcare and Medical Technology Transfer”.

In the workshop, Dr. Tran Cong Minh shared the potential and applications of technology in his research. Combining engineering science and medicine in his studies, he had successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis and continued his postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford.

In the Covid-19 pandemic, he applied AI technology and machine learning to develop the OxVent ventilator. With its low cost and advanced technology, his invention quickly had a significant impact on medicine and was implemented in practice shortly after.

Currently, Dr. Minh’s team at the University of Oxford continues to apply science and technology to research Slow-Wave Activity Saturation. He is also researching and providing the most accurate data on stroke cases in Vietnam. We can see that medicine is gradually changing and becoming more groundbreaking in the age of advancing digital technology.

Beside that, as an expert with extensive experience in the field of management and technology, Dr. Tran Cong Minh also shared with HSB students his knowledge and experience about management in the modern business environment. In production, he gave out the three most important factors that determine an organization’s business capability, which are: Era – People – The subjective/objective factors of the product.

He also stated the importance of strategic planning: “A good leader is someone who can receive requests from an expert, communicate them so that different departments understand, and then formulate an appropriate strategy.” And to achieve this, organizations must always focus on research and development, continuously improving to find effective strategies.

As a Vietnamese who has lived and worked in the UK for many years, Dr. Tran Cong Minh has always been a bridge of friendship between Vietnam and the UK. He always gives advice to young people in Vietnam who are planning to study in the UK, offering guidance on how to integrate into the new environment, the academic atmosphere, and seek support. Then encourage young people to develop themselves, think independently, manage their time, and be disciplined. At the same time, he promotes research and creativity, helping young learners achieve their own accomplishments.

The workshop with Dr. Tran Cong Minh provided HSB students with valuable insights into Technological Trends in Healthcare and Medical Technology Transfer, while also opening opportunities for them to better understand the academic and research environment in the UK. Dr. Minh’s sharing also provided students with knowledge about management and strategic planning in business. The session showed the influence of technology in many fields, while promoting creativity and research among the younger generation.
